LCN.com, a domain registration company, announced that it will offer .tel domain names during the approaching Landrush phase, starting on the 3rd February 09. The company says that described by Fortune/CNN Money as the ‘Google of online address books’, and set to compete with traditional directory services, .tel domains are garnering consumer interest in the run-up to their post trademark launch.
It avers that Telnic Limited, the registry operator for the .tel domain, reported that within hours of opening the registration period for trademark owners, Google, Apple, Microsoft, and thousands of other leading brands applied for their respective .tel domain extension.
Mark Boost, Managing Director, www.LCN.com, said: “The .tel domain is very different to conventional domains such as .com and .co.uk. ”The .tel has huge potential for individuals and SMEs as it allows them to create an online presence for themselves or their business in a matter of minutes without the need for any web design knowledge.”
“With a .tel domain, an individual can set different levels of access to their contact information, allowing friends and family to have full view of their contact details, while hiding specific information from unknown Web surfers and search engines.” noted Boost.
